Emergency Descent Devices
Capewell is the exclusive worldwide supplier/manufacturer of the Emergency Descent Device.
APPLICATION
The Emergency Descent Device provides a safe and rapid method of descent from an aircraft during an on-ground emergency situation requiring aircrew egress.
The Boeing Company, Airbus and Lockheed have licensed Capewell, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), to produce these devices for their aircraft. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified Capewell as the only authorized company to re-certify these devices after performing a "rebuild".
The device is attached to the inside of the aircraft permitting two-hand descent. The internal centrifugal braking mechanism of the unit slows descent to a safe rate.
